I had great plans for 2012, the year when I finally learned all the lessons from the past.  This year it would be more organised, less hectic.  I’d build in weekends for relaxation, massages, time to “chill” with ample opportunity to plan, meditate and reflect on the meaning of life…ah yes, the dream, the hopes soon to be dashed!

The reality is that it’s still only January and already I can tell you that I don’t have enough time this year to fit everything in.  I have too much to do and too much I need to achieve in 2012.  I need 48 hours in every day, 14 days in each week and who knows how many months in the year to get it all done.  In short, I’m too busy to go out to my job…just send the pay-check in the usual manner, I’ll be home getting on with my own personal stuff.  I wish!!

Of course it’ll settle down, but the first overview is always daunting.  We need so many days for this, so many days for that, extra days here, parents days there, friends haven’t seen us for months so let’s do that this year, and the list goes on.  So in January, with our new calendars, diaries and electronic iPads or iPhones, we begin to organise it.  Ok, here’s my list, what have you got?  Who have you included that I forgot?

So we start planning the new year – which weekends are already planned, where we’ve already had conversations with friends or family and some are definite, some more tentative…but it all has to go in.

Bank holidays, Easter, Queen’s June weekend, Olympics, Christmas – start with the obvious stuff.

Birthdays that require visits, evenings or weekends, who’s turning 50, 60 or is there a wedding or anniversary that needs our attendance?  Have we promised any weekends away, or shopping trips with friends…it all has to go in right from the start.  So Christmas shopping trips in December 2012 are already in the diary now.

The year is now beginning to take shape, and adding in the general ‘must do’ items, and already we have something in every month of the year.

What’s left…oh yes, the annual holiday – do we actually have a two week slot for a holiday?  I think we’ll have to move something!  How about June, no that’s got this planned already, how about July don’t think so, let’s try move something.  How about August?

And we swore we’d be better organised this year.  Make more relaxed time, more down time to de-stress!!

Back to the drawing board.
